Brrrrr…Baby it is so cold outside! We are having a blizzard today labeled by our newscasters as a “bomb cyclone blizzard”. Sounds cozy doesn’t it? Quickly, before my power goes out, I have decided to make myself a nice cup of homemade hot cocoa in my special happy cup (yes I am a big kid sometimes).
Growing up it was always hot cocoa powder from a bag without a second thought. When I grew up and started reading ingredient labels on what I was giving my own kids I discovered how gross some of the ingredients were. I decided to try to make my own. I was shocked at how easy it was- and how much more delicious it was without all the “gross stuff”.
*Gross Stuff= SUGAR, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, DAIRY PRODUCT SOLIDS (FROM MILK), COCOA PROCESSED WITH ALKALI, VEGETABLE OIL (PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED COCONUT OR PALM KERNEL AND HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN), AND LESS THAN 2% OF SODIUM CASEINATE, CELLULOSE GUM, SALT, SODIUM CITRATE, GUAR GUM, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOUR, ECT…Bleh!
Here is my super simple homemade recipe.
You can make a single serving or a full pot for the whole family in just minutes!
Single Serving Amount (Family Serving Amount)
1 tblsp (1 cup) cocoa powder
1 tblsp (1 cup) sugar substitute (I use organic stevia sweetener)
1 tblsp water (1 cup water)
1 scoop (4 scoops) Hydrolyzed Collagen – check out the health benefits this ingredient!
1 cup (4 cups) organic milk
1/4 tsp (1tsp) organic vanilla
little pinch of salt (big pinch of salt)
Mix together cocoa powder and sugar substitute in a mug for single serving or a pot for family serving. Add boiling water and stir till a liquid chocolate consistency. Add Hydrolyzed Collagen and stir till dissolved. Add milk and warm in microwave or over stovetop for family size stirring often. Add vanilla and stir. Adjust ingredients to taste and enjoy!
